PLASTIC SIDE COVERING RIB POSITION OPTIMIZATION FOR RATTLE NOISE PREDICTION AT VEHICLE DESIGN

This study concerns a CAE analysis method for an automotive comfort parameter, NVH BS&R (Buzz, Squeak & Rattle) noise prediction and prevention at design stage. Noise source here is the contact because of contact between the ribs on a plastic side covering part and the sheet metal body on which the side covering is mounted inside vehicle. The noise issue in question here is rattle noise that are audible while driving on rough road conditions. The case is simulated in CAE software. Rattle based finite element model is set, connection line and rattle noise assessment parameters are defined as input, excitation is applied on the model to create contacts which may cause rattle noise, through the relative displacement between specific node pairs, risky rib contact points are determined by FEM approach, and as a result, rib positions are optimized in order not to occur rattle noise.

ACOUSTIC EVALUATION OF STEERING COLUMN ON ROUGH ROAD CONDITIONS

This study gives information about test method, evaluation and analyses in order to detect and eliminate BS&R (Buzz, Squeak and Rattle) noise on vehicles. A vehicle with steering column BS&R noise has been subjectively evaluated, the noise has been detected, in order to support subjective evaluation; that detected BS&R noise has been displayed through graphical outputs of sound and vibration measurement on pave road condition. Same test has been performed on another unnoisy vehicle without steering column BS&R noise. Noisy and unnoisy vehicles have been compared and the issue has been analysed.

SOUND PHASE CHANGE OVER BARRIERS

Abstract [en] Noise Barriers are used for cancellation of sound from roads. Sound of different frequencies travel differently over the top of the barriers. Design of barriers differ. Sound phase change can play an important role in noise cancellation. The aim of this thesis is to simulate the source, noise barrier, receiver environment by software and investigate the sound phase change for different designs of the top of noise barriers. Linear Acoustics and Wave Theory is used for wave propagation.

Abstrakt [sv] Avsikten med examensarbeten är att simulera en ljudkälla, bullerbarriär, lur miljö i dator och utforska fasbyte av ljud för olika former av överdel av bullerbarriärer.
